Callbreak uses a standard 52-card deck for four-player trick-taking matches. Each game spans five rounds, with players arranged in a fixed order. The first dealer is determined by randomly selecting a card from the deck, setting the initial seating. After this round, dealers rotate counterclockwise. Each round begins with the dealer distributing 13 face-down cards to themselves, then passing one face-up card to each player in an anti-clockwise direction, starting with the dealer's right.

Players start by placing bids on their trick-taking potential, beginning with the dealer's right-hand player. Spades are the highest-ranking suit, requiring players to follow suit unless they play a trump card. If neither is possible, any card can be played. To maximize trick wins, players should lead with their highest card. The dealer's right leads the first trick, with players proceeding counterclockwise. The highest spade or matching suit card wins each trick, advancing the winner to the next round. Accurate bids earn points, while missed bids reduce the total. After four rounds, players set their fifth-round targets, with the final round determining the winner and runner-up.
