In the heat of battle, mechs can only absorb a finite amount of damage before falling offline, though you can spend a unit's turn on emergency field repairs. Once a mission ends, any damage sustained is completely restored. Mech pilots earn experience points by eliminating Vek, unlocking valuable tactical abilities as they level up.
